The cool, crisp Fall air was no match for the electrifying heat generated in the Key Club this past Tuesday. The venue was packed wall-to-wall with Angelenos (and a HEAP of Bay Areans) ready for the soulful sounds of Stacy Barthe, Bridgette Kelly and headliner, Goapele. Stacy and Bridgette warmed-up the crowd with their sultry sounds and kinetic performances. By the time Goapele and her band hit the stage , the audience was already primed for a remarkable show. Goapele wasted no time wow-ing the crowd as she stepped out in a sexy, short one-shouldered black and silver number. She opened the show with fan favorite “First Love” then continued with songs from her latest album, “Break of Dawn.” As she performed the hit single “Play,” the crowd began to go wild. Even the burliest soul music fans couldn’t resist singing along to the sexy hook. She kept the energy high with sassy track “Money,” blessed the crowd with a cover of Chaka Khan’s “Sweet Thing” then soothed the crowd with “Undertone.” The highlight of the night was during the performance of “Tears on my Pillow” when her guitarist took his solo and made sweet, sweet love to his guitar. It was magically delicious. She closed the show with “Closer” and was gracious enough to bless the crowd with an encore performance of my personal favorite, “Love Me Right.” You can never go wrong with an amazing live band and a golden voice, it was a recipe for success that I’m sure the crowd ate all up!
